I received my bachelor's degree in Accounting and Computer Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1981. I earned my CPA (Certified Public Accountant) in 1986. In 1990, with the help of my wife Cathy, we opened our own accounting firm in Damascus, Maryland. By 2000, I also achieved certifications to provide college, estate and retirement planning services. I believe these two categories of serviceâtax and financial planningâare directly connected, and the reason so many of my clients in and around Damascus tell their friends and relatives about our practice. In fact, almost all of my new business comes from client referrals.
I take pride in meeting the challenges presented by this type of work. I believe the greatest reward of being a CPA is solving people's problems. Success to me is providing outstanding service but the greatest reward is helping people to resolve their business or financial issues. For example, I love showing people numbers that prove they can retire earlier than they thought or strategies that help them save on taxes.
I have had the privilege of meeting with thousands of people who have business and side hustles in many states. It has been an extremely rewarding career experience for me, and I take this job as a Tax Advisor seriously. Bringing a sense of freedom and security to the lives of my clients adds joy to my own life.
Away from the office, Cathy and I enjoy spending time with our family of four sons, three daughters-in-law and one grandson. Cathy volunteers at our church and I have spent years coaching in the Damascus Sports Association. In my free time I love to play golf. Cathy and I enjoy taking trips to our house in South Carolina and playing pickleball together.
